Refining

Refining is an essential process for a complete oil pressing line because there are still some impurities such as phospholipids, FFA, pigment, odor,etc. in the crude oil. Main Steps of Oil Refining

1.Crude Oil DegummingIn this step gums in crude oil are removed by hydration with the help of phosphoric acid.

2. NeutralizationIn this step free fatty acids are neutralized by using sodium hydroxide and convert them into soap.

Additional impurities are also removed by adsorption on soap.
3. BleachingDuring bleaching, unwanted pigments are adsorbed physically and oil will become much clearer.
4. DeodorizationDeodorization is used to remove unacceptable odors by steam distillation,

the odoriferous compound are stripped off with the help of live injected steam into heated oil under high vacuum pressure.
5. Dewaxing (necessary for cold areas)
Some kinds of oil like sunflower, maize germ or corn oil have waxes inside, if these impurities are not removed,

the oil will freeze easily under low temperature, thus effecting oil quality and appearance. so this process is necessary in extremely cold areas.

Edible Oil Refining Process – Deodorizing

Combined deodorizing is the latest technology, which improves oil flexibility significantly. Detailed deodorizing process in the entire oil refining plant is: Most heat of bleached oil is recovered by Heat Exchangers. The bleached oil is heated to the process temperature by mineral oil or high pressure steam and then the oil enters into the Combined Deodorizer. The Deodorizer is a combined type: The upper is packing structure, which is used to remove odor components like FFA; the lower is a plate type used for heat bleaching and making product quality more consistent. Oil coming from the Deodorizer is cooled and stored after series of heat exchanger. Volatile like FFA is collected and stored as by-products.
